Where Will You Go from Here? by Valorie Burton ~ A Review

I enjoy inspirational books but haven’t felt the need lately to “be inspired.” However, I loved Where Will You Go from Here? by Valorie Burton. As I was reading I immediately thought of a friend going through a very difficult family situation who would benefit from reading it and plan to pass it on.

There are step-by-step instructions from Certified Personal and Executive Coach Valorie Burton on how to handle adversity, whether it’s due to a divorce, death, job loss or whatever. Valorie reveals the circumstances surrounding her own divorce and how she has come though it. There are also personal stories from others who have been through terrible circumstances and have survived. Biblically based suggestions during each step guide the process.  

The twelve chapters outline the different ideas for examining your life and what to do about it:

1 – This Isn’t the Way You Planned It

2 – Where in the World Are You?

3 – How Did You End Up Here?

4 – What Are You Most Afraid Of?

5 – How Can You Regain Your Confidence?

6 – Where Can You Turn for Help?

7 – Where Will You Go from Here?

8 – Do You Need to Redefine Yourself?

9 – What’s the Best Way to Get There from Here?

10 – Are Your Thoughts Holding You Back?

11 – Why Don’t You Feel Happier by Now?

12 – How Can You Find the Good in All This?

The 5 Commitments or Guiding Principles filter throughout the text. These are so awesome I plan to type them up and post them by my desk at work.

1 – I will not feel sorry for myself.

2 – I will not stare at the closed door.

3 – I will dig deep to unearth all the courage I need.

4 – I will direct my thoughts – my thoughts will not direct me.

5 – I will choose to believe all things work together for God.

This book is a wonderful source of comfort for those in difficult circumstances and just a good read for those who are not. Everyone can use encouragement!
